"The Pike" was Long Beach's historic ocean-front amusement park, which flourished in the early 1900's and declined by 1960. Thanks to redevelopment, the Long Beach waterfront now boasts a world-class convention and visitors center and will soon boast The Aquarium of the Pacific.

Through a process called "Tax Increment Financing" whereby the Redevelopment Agency benefits from the increase in property taxes that result from the increase in the assessed value of a given piece of property that undergoes redevelopment.
